Children’s Day, El Día de los Niños, is traditionally celebrated in Latin America and many Asian and European countries to honor and commemorate the essential role of children in the future of every nation. Initiated by the National Latino Children’s Institute in 1998, the U.S. Senate passed Resolution 278, declaring April 30th El Día de los Niños: Celebrating Young Americans. At present it is celebrated in many cities in over 30 U.S. states.

             The purpose of Children’s Day is to Uplift Children. It is a day for parents, families, communities, and public officials to value and acclaim all children. It is a day for children when children and youth take the central stage and declare it their day,

             El Día de los Niños: Celebrating Young Americans was celebrated for the first time in Cincinnati and in Cincinnati Public Schools on April 30, 2003.  This year we want all schools in the Cincinnati area to participate in the following celebrations: 

• Friday, April 27th at all participating Cincinnati schools - Information and registration package with suggested activities for the celebration will be sent to all schools by email per request.
  

• Saturday, April 28th - The ELL Foundation, Inc. is hosting the Children’s Day, El Día de los Niños event, which will include all Cincinnati area schools, at the Cincinnati Zoo. Mayor Mallory will join us and read the Proclamation.  More information will be provided.
  

• Sunday, April 29th - There also will be a celebration at the Main Branch of the Cincinnati Public Library downtown. The winning posters made by the students will be on display at the Main Library.
  

• Monday, April 30th - The celebration will follow at the Children’s Hospital & Medical Center.
  

All children and their parents are invited to participate in these celebrations.
